Many thousands of turns ago, AIVAS was found and with it, the end of thread was brought. But, peace did not last amongst the Pernese for long as new countries were formed from territories which once were defined by the Weyrs which protected them. Different cultures began to take rise. The legacy of the Harpers became less important and a localized history was born to each. This diversity was both good and bad. So long as the dragonmen were there to help keep what fragile peace there could be.
But nothing lasts forever….
As dragon kind began to die out over time, hatching rates decreasing… Weyrs became Weyrholds, providing for themselves and their dragons. Soon, their prestige was long forgotten, even amongst the Harpers. What was long revered as Pern’s great protector was a faded memory as Pern moved forward, advancing its technology into a very steampunk like level and world.
Those who still had the fortitude to watch the sky, known as Star Crafters, studiers of Pern and the stars, watching, waiting were the first to see it. A black object that was coming closer and closer to Pern with every passing day.
The Deadlight. The Deadlight would change everything, the fate of Pern, the fate of the dragons. It was the large black thing that was hurtling towards Pern that seemed to spark the resurgence of what was only a handful of dragons into what would be enough for a Weyr.
When it hit Pern, it landed to the North. From the cracked shell crawled out a new species of creature, as if exiled to the galaxies. It was snake-like, slithering on its stomach and across the land, but with back legs which could propel it into the air and wings that would carry it. The creature proved itself to be carnivorous and soon began to multiply, its offspring found across Pern. The dragon’s and their flame once more had a purpose on Pern…
Their purpose only became even more seen as Thread was once more felt on Pern as AIVAS was destroyed by the same creatures the dragons now had to Fight. With two enemies and so few dragons, how will Pern survive?

Hi! I'm Havyn, the administrator of Silence. This Weyr was inspired by what I saw as a need for a more diverse Pern. I love Pern, but the idea that all of Pern should be the same felt limiting. Therefore, I set about to create a non-canon version of Pern that has and emphasizes diversity. Silence Weyr welcomes those who might be looking for something a little different.
